There are many home users don't update their anivirus software only because they dont have an internet connection in home. its better to have a computer without antivirus than using outdated antivirus ! Yes updating virus signature database of your security software is necessary to protect your computer against new threats.
Many of the users use Eset Node32 antivirus software as it is always on the top 5 anivirus list. You can update your node32 manually offline with these simple steps. You'll need a place where there should have a computer installed with node32 and internet connection. You can do it from your friends house or college computer.
STEPS:
First update the node32 on computer(of your friend) with internet connection. After successful update of antivirus database, do the following:
- Locate installation folder of Eset Node32. It may C:\Program Files\Eset by default.
- Copy the Eset folder to a usb pendrive or flash disk
The first step is now complete. You'll need to copy the folder to your computer which do not have internet connection. The do these steps:
- Restart your computer in safe mode ( Press F8 on startup)
- Locate the installation folder Eset on your system. It may C:\Program Files\Eset as earlier.
- In the Eset folder which have updated files, select all files except nodshex.dll
- Copy it and paste it to C:\Program Files\Eset
- Restart computer
Look for virus signature database in your node32 information box, Nod 32 should updated now.
Note:
This is not a very good method of updating an antivirus. However this doesn't made any problems for me till now (version 2.7).
