Recently my own system, hibernation of windows XP slowed down all of a sudden. It takes about 5 minutes to complete hibernation. But I've found the best solution. For your case try the following tips:

This will surely help you out in  ost of the situations where standby or hibernation process is abnormal. Besides this, you can try the following tips:
  1. Defragment the C: drive (The location drive where windows is installed)
  2. Perform a disk check
  3. Make sure your Hard disk access mode is set to DMA. Read How To Set Drive Transfer Mode To DMA
  4. Perform a registry clean using any of the registry cleaner software's
  5. Install latest microsoft .Net Framework
Installing or reinstalling the updated version of the chipset driver made my system normal to hibernate. Search on the internet to find the latest driver of your computer chipset.
