One of the major attractions of mobile world congress held in Barcelona in Feb 2012 was the Samsung's new approach to smartphone - The Galaxy Beam Android projector smartphone. The new member is termed as the first android phone with a projector feature. Now it reached the Indian market with a price tag of Rs. 30000/-
Its not a new idea that a device which works simultaneously as a smartphone as well as projector but it happened for first time in a major series phone. The Samsung Galaxy Beam comes with an integrated pico projector which allows you to project the phone display on a wall or desk.
Lets look into some important specifications of the phone. The device runs on Android OS, v2.3.6 and has a 15 lumen Digital Light Projector (DLP). It can project 360p 50 inch large visuals on a screen that is two meters apart. Samsung promises the upgrade to Android 4. ICS.
Beam equips with a 4 inch multi touch capacitive Super AMOLED screen with 8000x480 resolution. The 1 GHz dual core processor and 768 MB RAM gives above average performance among phones in this price range. The device including battery weighs 145gm and has 12.5 mm thickness. The 5 MP camera allows you to take 720p videos and the 1.3 MP front camera ensures full fledged chatting video call. The phone's got 8GB internal storage while ou have an external storage option which can be expanded upto 32GB.
Samsung claims a battery backup of 3 hours when the phone is in projector mode which is enough to watch a whole movie while in the other hand it gives you 20 hours of 2G talk time. Actually the retail pack of galaxy beam contains two batteries and 3 hour projector backup is including this two batteries. in other words one battery gives you 1.5 hour backup while on projector.
