Associate a File Type Extension with a Certain Program

In this fast life, we all want to reduce the time we've spending in front of computers for unnecessary things such as opening certain video files in a particular media player etc. It can be better customize Windows 7 to work the way we want rather than let us choose each time. Its a very basic thing for a computer user to associate file types with certain programs so that they should open up without having to right click and go for "open With" .

In Windows7 operating system,

  • Click Start Menu and click Default Programs.
  • It would open a window where you should select "Associate a file type or protocol with a program "  which lists almost all known file types with extensions, for each item you can set your default program which it should open with. Scroll the file type you want and click "Change Program"

  • Choose from the list where windows suggests some program. If the software that you looking for doesn't exist in the list, click Browse and find it for yourself from the disk.
  • Click OK after you're done.
