Samsung Galaxy Ace Official Gingerbread update - Noticeable Changes

Finally, the official android gingerbread update for Samsung galaxy ace smartphone released for India. I have updated my galaxy to android 2.3.4 using KIES software. Here are some noticeable changes that I've found in a quick look.

  • Visual changes - There are not many visual changes made on the gingerbread version of android. Major changes are in the notification area. The battery status indicator become little small but vertically placed and some minor changes in the signal strength looks. The screen looks more like a high resolution phone and contrast increased a bit. A new wallpaper is added to inbuilt wallpaper gallery.

  • Talkback keyboard - A new input method for blind users were added to this update which can be enabled from accessibility options in settings.

  • Music Player - Another major change is on the music player. The album art image fills most of the screen and a fading seek bar appears when you touches the screen. Also you can drag the songs to access next song which is a cool feature.

  • Selecting Data Network - A shortcut is added to power menu (press and hold power key) which allows you to select data network or network without a gprs connection.

  • Gaming Performance - The most noticeable change in this firmware update is the performance of games in this version of android. The lag that were present in the froyo version disappeared in gingerbread for some games and it plays very smoothly. (NFS shift, PES 2011 tested)
  • Battery - Definitely some improvement but not much.
  • Other changes: - Phone memory space remains the same before and after the update. RAM usage increased slightly. Settings and other menu items load faster.
Something bad about this update is still no adobe flash player support! Otherwise a smooth android 2.3.4

Hello,

Today I upgraded my Galary ace to 2.3.4. But NFS Shift is not working. It just opens initial page and then automatically closes. Please update me how did you made it running on your ace mobile?

I think you've installed NFS shift which is ported only to work with froyo. To run NFS shift in gingerbread, download it from here.

Is it just me or is it a fact that no one here seems to have noticed the absence of 'Debug mode' when you connect your device to PC? Also the option to select between 2G and 3G is also absent in my upgraded ACE! Please lemme know if you people are missing these too. Otherwise I would have to make another upgrade.

IMPORTANT…!!!….All of you…..While upgrading your Samsung Galaxy Ace to official Gingerbread 2.3.4 through Kies software….Please assure that your Kies has a latest version…if not…..please upgrade it first……then try to upgrade your Ace…..Upgrade your phone only if you are using hi-speed internet through Wi-Fi…..it takes around 1 to 2 hrs (Please keep patience or wait while upgrade)….Do not use any USB broadband internet device as it’s speed is very low for updating your phone through Kies…..if you still getting any message on Kies while updating or it stops…..try again and again till you get the update to your phone….it’s normal…….All the Best…!!!

I have the similar problem when it starts to download firmware after some time it throws an error message "GT-S5830 occurs an error" and a new dialog box opens. This gives me instructions and a Emergency Recovery button. It tells me to switch off your phone and go into the recovery mode and start Emergency Recovery. Now when i did all the instructions and click Emergency Recovery Button, a small dialog box open which shows no Phone or device is connected please connect. I pulled out USB Cable several time, switch off phone many times, insert battery again and again but nothing happens. Only a small dialog box which tell me no device connected at the end.
I have USB cable 2.0
Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830
Andriod Version 2.2.1
Kies version : updated

Please help me to upgrade my phone....

hey i updated my Galaxy Ace sometime ago, but i've noticed something u said in this post, which is a slight increase in RAM usage..before update, the phone won't appear to be laggy whenever i use the phone after the phone is not used for mayb 10 minutes..but after the update, it seems that everytime i unlock my phone after every 10 minutes, the phone seems to be laggy and requires at least 10 seconds to operate smoothly..any idea what is happening and how to fix this? thanks in advance =)
