Few games like GTA IV, may not detect the installed drivers of your NVIDIA graphics card. When you start the game, it'll show the intel integrated graphics as the only resource with 59MB video memory while actually you have the NVIDIA GT -540M /525 M with dedicated 2 GB/ 1GB video memory . I've faced this problem on my dell XPS 15, while playing GTA 4, certainly it's very disappointing to stay with crappy graphics in a gaming laptop like XPS.
I don't want to stretch more, but here's the working solution for this problem. There's not many complicated things to do. All you have to do this is to go to NVIDIA website and download the latest driver.
Steps:
- Click here to go to download page
- On the website, under Manually find drivers for my NVIDIA products, fill the following data.
- Product type: GeForce
- Product Series: GeForce 500M series (notebooks)
- Product: GeForce GT 540M/525M
- Operating system : Windows 7 (64 bit)
- Language: English (US)
- Hit search., you'll end up with the following data.
Version: 285.62 WHQL
Release Date:2011.10.24
Operating System:Windows Vista 64-bit, Windows 7 64-bit
Language:English (U.S.)
File Size:191 MB
- Download the driver by accepting their terms.
- After downloading, just open the file and extract and install. ( The previous NVIDIA drivers with be uninstalled automatically)
- Restart the system, play the game. hope it works.
