Many people in India are used to buy laptops online because they have the flexibility of customizing the system rather than if they go to a local computer shop. In my case, I was looking for a Dell XPS 15 laptop but the local stores had an XPS 15 version without having the backlit keyboard, with a low 2nd generation i5 model. more importantly, the system they offered me only had 1GB NVIDIA GT -525 M and 5400 rpm HDD, where the online dell shop has a 2 GB NVIDIA GT -540M and 7200 rpm HDD. The prices are almost same whether you buy from local dealer or from Online. But amazingly, when I went to the dell India website, there was much easier options to select and customize laptop you want. For the sake of people who're new to buy a dell laptop, I'll explain the procedure to purchase one online.
- Goto Dell India website : www.dell.co.in . For laptops for home users, click 'Home' on the top and click laptops from the drop-down list. Choose your model - Inspiron, XPS, Alienware etc
- Choose a basic version of the corresponding model by clicking select and then customise. you can customize the colour, processor, operating system, software and security packages, display (to a full HD 1920x1080 p ), RAM, Hard disk drive, DVD RW/Blue ray, keyboard type - normal/back-lit, and lots more. After you've done, click add to cart.
- After you've built your system, click Continue. You'll need to register/ sign-in, remember to provide your address and contact number while doing so, then click Continue.
- You're almost completed the 1st stage. A dell representative will call you within 24 hours. Note that working days for dell offices in India are from Monday to Friday. If you've submitted the cart by Friday, you'll only get their call by Monday.
Note : You can also call 1800-425-4026/080-2506-8026 to talk to any sales managers in dell and he/she 'll assist you to build your system over voice.
- After getting the call, you'll be asked to pay the amount either by credit card or via internet banking transfer. If you're go with an interbank transfer, you'll get an account no. from them ( probably City Bank India account) and you need to add it as a beneficiary account in your internet baking profile in order to make the payment. Note the following while making payment:
- You need to take a screenshot of the confirmation of the payment and sent it via email.
- Also, you need a scanned copy of your voters ID/PAN card/Driving License. Email them along with the screenshot even if they are not asked because they need it to confirm your order in the factory.
- You're almost done!. Once everything is setup, the'll sent you an order confirmation PDF. It consist of an order no, customer no and estimated delivery date of your system. You can keep track of your order by going to dell.co.in/status and enter your order details.
- After 3-4 days ask for your bluedart tracking details. Once it get despatched from the factory ( Sriperumpudur, Tamilnadu), you'll get it delivered within 5-6 days.
